Hello / Bonjour / Aloha / Konnichiwa / Boozhoo / Hola
" Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't." / Bill Nye
Education is extremely important. It prepares you for the future and helps you better understand the world around you. Each one of us has talents that we can share with others. We also all have weaknesses… areas where we need the help of others.
In order to make our classroom a positive learning environment, we all need to work together to create a community where we learn from each other and feel safe to take educational risks. This means making mistakes is a good thing, its proof that you're trying. Asking questions is essential to learning. It means recognizing that you have knowledge to share and that there is an abundant amount of knowledge you can gain from others. We must all celebrate our differences, unique talents, and various areas of knowledge if we truly want to grow and learn.

SYLLABUS
BEHAVIOR :
At Fancher we have a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Program called SOAR. SOAR stands for Safety, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect. This program provides every student the opportunity to manage his or her own behavior. The behavior expectations are discussed numerous times throughout the school year and revisited as often as needed.
My classroom behavior expectations are based off of our SOAR Matrix. The SOAR Matrix is used in different learning environments throughout the school. Tracking daily behavior is done through our Falcon Tracker. This is a binder that follows the class throughout the day. Students’ behavior is tracked daily in class and in specials.
To encourage students to follow the classroom and school rules, I will reinforce appropriate behavior with notes, special awards, privileges, and lots of verbal praise. However, if a student is not following the expected behavior there is a Level System in our classroom the corresponds with the Falcon Tracker which lets students know when and where they are demonstrating the inappropriate behavior:
Level 1 Verbal Warning or a STOP Sign
Level 2 Privilege Loss
Level 3 Timeout / Reflection Sheet, which will be filled out by the student and sent home for a parent signature and then returned to school the following day.
Level 4 Office Discipline Referral, which results in an automatic meeting or communication with parents.
GRADING PROCESS :
The grading process used here at Fancher is different than that at the lower Elementary Schools. Fifth grade is a transition year where students start receiving letter grades rather than number grades. We use a straight grade system with no + or – scale.
The grading scale is as follows:
A = 100% - 90% B = 89% - 80% C = 79% - 70% D = 69% - 60% E = anything below 59%
AGENDA / COMMUNICATION :
Each and every day your student should be writing down daily assignments in their agenda. Assignments that are not completed in class are highlighted to remind the student that it is to be completed as homework. I will oversee that the students do this, but I cannot guarantee I’ll be able to check every student’s agenda and the materials they take home. They need to be honest and responsible about the work they need to complete.
The agenda is also an excellent place to write notes to me. For example: if an assignment is difficult for your child or if they are leaving early for an appointment. Please remind your son/daughter to show me notes you have written.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments. My email is [email protected]
You can also contact me at school, 989-775-2230. If I am not available to take a phone call the secretary will get a message to me in the classroom or put you through to voicemail.
